Trustee Report April 2013
By Morag Mackay and Gene Ruckavina, District 8 Trustees
Happy Spring to all our D8 members,
The National AALAS Board of Trustees meeting was held in Baltimore on March 22nd and 23rd. Some updates are provided below;
The new AALAS magazine has launched and will continue to look for additional content so if you want to contribute just e-mail them at [email protected]
Remember to check out the e-mail issues of the magazine too. We would love to hear your feedback on the Newsletter so please don’t hesitate to send us your comments!
The Ben Cohen Education Fund has supported 14 branches in providing funds for local or district meetings. Each branch can apply for up to $5,000 to support educational events. The 3 branches of Washington, Oregon and Northern Rocky Mountain were awarded Ben Cohen Funds that supported workshops for the District 8 meeting held in Portland. Oregon. This year a new workshop “mini-leadership academy” was added and very well received by attendees. Look out for an article to be published in an upcoming LASPro issue for more details.
In 2012 a decision was reached by the Board of Trustees to support moving towards a new governance structure for the AALAS Board. Instead of two Trustees from each of the 8 districts there will be one elected. There will of course still be an alternate Trustee and then new to the table will be the development of 4 “at-large” trustees. The Governance Task Force are continuing to look at how this new structure would be accomplished and more details will follow but please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss further or bring any concerns to our attention.
If you have any questions, concerns or complaints, let us know. If we can’t take care of it, between the two of us, we’ll find the answer. We hope to see you all at either your local branch meetings or at the National AALAS meeting this year in Baltimore.
Please do not hesitate to contact us!
